The finest offering from Madtown® Guitars is the Railrider. An all new modern Droptop variant with a book matched top and configured from a variety of wood species. The Railrider is completely designed from the ground up to be an exceptionally well-built, precision instrument that offers the most in comfort, innovation and style for the modern player.
Railrider bodies are typically crafted with a 1 or 2 piece select back and a 2 piece book-matched select figured top. I always strive to slip-match the backs. This way the backs are always from the same piece of stock and share the same properties. Species used are Black Limba, Mahogany, Alder and Ash. Tops will be primarily maple, but we have a varied stash and supply, so expect variety.
Necks are crafted with either select roasted maple or birdseye maple with an ebony fingerboard fretted with Jescar 47104 nickel silver wire. Solid 1/4 inch thick ebony fingerboards have a unique 12"-14" hybrid compound radius and genuine pearl dot inlays. 25.5” scale and Madtown's own custom C profile, measuring .812” at the first fret and .895” at the 12th. Fitted with a genuine bone nut blank with a nut width of 1.750", and a spoke nut style, two-way adjustable truss rod.
The Railrider is offered in both gloss and satin nitrocellulose finishes. You will find them in gloss body/satin neck and satin body/satin neck configurations.
Tuning machines are chrome Gotoh Magnum Locking, staggered post, with 16:1 ratios. The bridge is a chrome Gotoh 510, 2 point fulcrum tremolo with oversized high mass steel block, or chrome Gotoh hardtail string-through bridge. Dunlop chrome strap buttons. The Skidplate® is standard equipment on all Madtown® Guitars.
The Railriders are outfitted with a factory matched pair of Seymour Duncan® Saturday Night Specials. They sit in Madtown's® Original Humbucker Route, an innovative routing that allows the pickup to always be in constant contact with the body while remaining fully adjustable in height. Another first from Madtown®.
All Madtown® Guitars are crafted using genuine Emerson Pro CTS potentiometers, Emerson Pro tone capacitors, premium Oak Grigsby selector switches, and Switchcraft jacks. The “lean” of the switchtips on all Madtown® Guitars is completely intentional and is another Madtown® refinement that greatly enhances the ergonomics of pickup selection.
A custom Madtown® designed G&G Quality Case is standard with all Madtown® Guitars. Our G&G Quality cases are built to custom specs using actual full scale mock templates that we made for them to use to ensure proper, snug fit.
All Madtown® Guitars are strung using DR VERITAS VTE- 9 Handmade Quantum Nickel strings, and ship with 2 additional sets.
There are currently four offerings of colors for Railriders with maple tops. Butterscotch, Harvest Gold, Lemon Splash, and Savannah Sunrise. I prefer more traditional colors for the Railrider. I feel they work well to bring out the natural characteristics of the tops. The backs are pore-filled and stained Gunstock.
